Often times the world around us has us consumed with the past or the future, completely overlooking the joy of living in the here and now. It's so easy to get caught up in what's going to happen next or in what used to be. Anyone who's been following my team this year knows it hasn't been an easy one. We've had our highs and lows but it seems as if something has been missing all season. And now we are fighting for points as the regular season is wrapping up. Where we are now it is so easy to look back to last season and wonder what changed or to jump ahead to what will happen after this season ends. The challenge is to live in the present, focusing on what we can all do to end this season on a high note together.
Not only has this been a hard season as a team, it has also tested me a lot as an individual. I've been through hard seasons before as a team captain so I know it is a growing experience if nothing else, but with the added situation of living abroad, it has really taught me a lot about myself. Although playing soccer is my career, I can't allow the results and statistics to affect my mood or attitude. There's more to life than soccer. I knew this before but I think this season has been showing me in an entirely different way.
Sometimes I just need to take a step back and realize the amazing opportunities I have at my fingertips on and off the field and the awesome experiences I have had throughout this journey. The people I've met and the places I've seen are memories I will carry with me for the rest of my life. But thankfully it's not over yet. With three and a half months left and plenty of soccer to be played, I know I am going to learn and grow even more. I am still unsure what my next step will be after this season, but for now I'm choosing to live completely and entirely in the present. Thank you for support and encouragement throughout everything. Please know it is greatly appreciated :) And sorry for my lack of blog posts this season.
